Commissioners Carolyn Brakey and James Dvorak voted against the request, citing concerns about setting a dangerous precedent for taxpayers to subsidize a public official's wrongdoing.
Commissioner Ralph Spidalieri abstained from voting, expressing worries about a potential lawsuit over the commissioners’ decision. Grendell's request came as the jurist is facing a potential suspension from the bench involving the jailing of two juveniles who didn’t want to visit their father during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.
