The onset of punishing summer temperatures in the densely populated Gaza Strip, where hundreds of thousands are living in tents, has made life even more arduous.
A relative of Eyad Hegazi, a 10-year-old Palestinian child displaced from Shejaiya who died of malnutrition, mourns outside the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip on Friday. As wrangling continued Friday over the cease-fire proposal meant to halt fighting in the Gaza Strip and facilitate the delivery of aid, the humanitarian situation has only grown more dire.
“I am appalled by the dramatic increase and unprecedented scale and intensity of grave violations against children in the Gaza Strip, Israel and the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, despite my repeated calls for parties to implement measures to end grave violations,” said U.N. Secretary General António Guterres.
