A US built pier off the Gaza coast has broken apart during rough weather, less than two weeks after it was installed.

Ms Singh said: "From when it was operational, it was working, and we just had sort of an unfortunate confluence of weather storms that made it inoperable for a bit.The US says it is "over 50 per cent complete" with getting the pier set up several miles off the Gaza coast.Since the pier began operations, the United Nations has transported 137 trucks of aid from the pier — the equivalent of 900 metric tonnes — a UN World Food Programme spokesperson said.
Two of the service members received minor injuries but the third is still in critical condition, Ms Singh said. The other two boats were stranded on the beach in Gaza and were expected to be recovered in the next two days, she said.
