Israel could 'deepen' an offensive across Gaza if Hamas does not budge on a deal to free hostages, an Israeli minister says. But Hamas has warned Israel there will be no ceasefire if military action continues in Rafah. Earlier, Israel captured the Gaza side of the Rafah border.
A man taken hostage by Hamas during the 7 October attacks has been confirmed dead. Lior Rudaeff was killed in the attack and his body has been held by the militant group, the Hostages Families Forum Headquarters has said. 'The Forum will continue providing assistance and support to Lior's family during this immensely difficult time until his body are returned to Israel for a proper burial,' it added in a statement.
The group has also called on the Israeli government to do more to bring his body home, saying it has a 'profound moral duty to pursue every avenue' in negotiations. 'He deserves a dignified burial in his homeland, alongside the 38 other hostages brutally murdered,' it said.'The government must also secure the swift return of all living hostages, so they can begin the long road to healing and recovery.' Mr Rudaeff, 61, was born in Argentina but had moved to Israel.
