Gov GavinNewsom is seeking to propose a new amendment to the US Constitution that will crack down on gun ownership in the nation. Newsom's proposed 28th Amendment aims to address the rise in national gun violence.

Newsom, with $10 million left from his 2022 reelection campaign, wants to try and slow gun violence by adding four new federal laws while keeping the Second Amendment intact. “Through an aggressive, coordinated and sustained state-by-state organizing campaign through the 2024 election, the Campaign for Democracy's mission is to confront and defeat unAmerican authoritarianism,” the PAC's website reads, referring to “extremist” Republicans’ advocacy for complete firearm freedoms.
