'It is absolute shame that resources meant for saving lives are looted.”
“Through the budget tabled today, Gauteng is hiring more health workers, procuring more personal protective equipment , increasing bed capacity in existing public health facilities, and putting up field hospitals in preparation for the peak,” said Makhura’s office.
Marring the government's efforts, however, were some public officials who have seen the coronavirus pandemic as a way to swindle money from the state, he said. “The resources being allocated for Covid-19 should be utilised strictly to strengthen the capacity and boost the resilience of our public health-care system to save more lives and deal with the burden of the disease, and handle the outbreak of epidemics and pandemics. It is absolute shame that resources meant for saving lives are looted.”. Makhura said he would provide a report-back on these next week.
