Gauteng Deputy Director for Public Transport Xolisa Mdingane has raised concerns about vehicles which have been falsely registered.

Traffic control law enforcement officers set up a roadblock.

He was speaking as the province launched its annual Road Safety Campaign for the Easter Period on the busy R80 Freeway linking Pretoria and townships in the north of Tshwane.Mdingane says pedestrian jaywalking is also a challenge. “Since we started with this operation this morning, we have noticed a number of things; there are a number of motorists driving with expired discs. That says to us people do not do pre-trip inspections. And the issue of pedestrians residing near our provincial we appeal that they take care of their lives.”

Meanwhile, Limpopo’s transport authorities have started deploying traffic officers on major routes as they brace for high traffic volumes ahead of the Easter long weekend.Chuene says they’re expecting high traffic volumes on the province’s roads. “Our Law enforcement officers will be working around the clock between the 6th and 10th of April to maximise visibility and aid the flow of traffic, especially on critical routes prone to congestion. These include the N1 especially around tollgates, R101, R510, R516, N11, R37, R555, R521, R524, R523, R36, R40, R71, R81, P277/1, Matlala road, some local routes, and the two border posts in the province, that is Beitbridge and Groblersbrug,” says Chuene.
