Gauteng Premier David Makhura says the province is ready to move to level 3 of the national lockdown next month.

We still have to climb the mountain of the peak. The peak is ahead of us, it may come in July or August or September.However, Makhura said there was clear evidence that the establishment of the National Coronavirus Command Council had slowed down the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. As a result, Gauteng now had less than 15% of the country’s confirmed virus infection cases.
“Various models suggest that it [the peak] is coming. We’re ready for the worst of times. We are expanding the capacity of our healthcare services by employing more health officials and building capacity. In the suburbs we now have more recoveries and fewer active cases, with newer confirmed cases in our townships,” said Makhura.
