Rosetta Msimango/City PressThe Gauteng health department has obtained a court interdict against the striking members of the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union to stop their members from obstructing the rendering of health services to patients.
He said police had been ordered to take all steps necessary to give effect to the interim interdict, including the removal and expulsion of any person obstructing the rendering of services from properties and premises of the provincial health department. Sama spokesperson Mvuyisi Mzukwa said the association supported the fight for increased remuneration and budget for all healthcare professionals, but disagreed with the methods that put patients, the public and their members at risk.Judge rules in favour of provincial department against intimidation and violence by striking Nehawu members
There is no place for intimidation, violence and arson of any kind, at any facility, let alone a healthcare facility. The association affirms that healthcare facilities are not places of protest. Instead, these are institutions for quality care to the country’s most vulnerable, the patients. Denosa spokesperson Sibongiseni Delihlazo said there had been complaints of assault of nurses at Cecilia Makiwane , Frere, Leratong, Thelle Mogoerane, Bheki Mlangeni, Charlotte Maxeke, Holy Cross, Ladysmith and Albert Luthuli hospitals, among many others.Increasingly, more healthcare facilities are becoming dysfunctional as the strike action escalates countrywide, with no response from the government.
