JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng contributed 27.2 percent of the national overall crime statistics for the fourth quarter of the 2022/2023 financial year.
Gauteng police commissioner Elias Mawela was presenting the fourth-quarter statistics to the Portfolio Committee on Community Safety.Overall crime increased by 2,129 counts compared to the same time last year.Mawela says contact crimes remain the biggest contributor. He says that due to the unique characteristics and profile of the province, Gauteng's contribution to the national figure would consistently remain significant.Source
