Gas station in historic district on hold, but repairs could start soon on Conti St. houses "No, thank you."Representatives of gas station giant Murphy USA walked away from the meeting of the Architectural Review Board empty-handed Wednesday.
"We've put a lot of time and money into it,” he says, “us, the previous owners... I've seen pictures of what the house looked like just 10 years ago and it was run down. To put something like that across the street is just going to, I feel, revert, maybe not our house, but neighboring homes back to that."
Many issues were raised, but the ones that seemed to hit home with the board members were the positioning and design of the gas station, which doesn't differ from those found in suburban communities. Several board members made statements echoing those concerns... and then they tabled the matter, allowing the developers to reconsider their plans and make changes if they choose to pursue the project.."We're not going anywhere,” says Bill Bosewell of the Government Street Collaborative. “We've got a full tank. Not a full tank of gas, but it's a full tank of renewable energy from the historic district.
