Gas main break prompts evacuations at three apartment complexes in Mira Mesa [Breaking]
A two-car crash that caused a gas main break resulted in three apartment complexes being evacuated Wednesday in Mira Mesa, officials said.
The gas leak was reported around 3:18 p.m. on Black Mountain Road, near Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego firefighters said in a news release post to the department website.Firefighters evacuated 20 apartment units, officials said. The evacuees were taken to San Diego Miramar College. People on campus at Miramar College — located a little over a half-mile from the gas leak — were told to shelter in place, according to officials.
San Diego police announced at 4:45 p.m. that they had temporarily closed Black Mountain Road, between Gold Coast Drive and Carroll Canyon Road.
