Republican gubernatorial candidate and state Treasurer Stacy Garrity is calling on Gov. Josh Shapiro to return over $2 million in contributions from billionaire Reid Hoffman, who is named throughout the Jeffrey Epstein files. “This week we learned that Hoffman was mentioned over 2,500 times in the newly released Epstein files and traveled to Epstein’s properties,” Garrity said in a statement released by her campaign. “If Josh Shapiro truly cares about the victims of sexual abuse,” she said, “he needs to man up, return Hoffman’s money and disavow his liberal sugar daddy.”to Shapiro between 2021 and 2023 totaling $1.65 million, as well as Hoffman’s connections to Epstein. However, the total given to Shapiro by Hoffman has now climbed over $2 million following a $500,000 contribution on Dec. 30 that was included in Shapiro’s 2025 year-end filing. “Stacy Garrity should stop playing politics with the Epstein files,” said Shapiro campaign spokesman Manuel Bonder. “Donald Trump is mentioned in the files over 5,000 times. Is she going to ask him to rescind his endorsement?”“Shapiro accepted these donations at a time when it was publicly known that Hoffman was linked to Epstein as early as 2019,” said the campaign statement. “Accepting donations from Jeffrey Epstein’s associate is the latest example of Josh Shapiro turning a blind eye to female victims,” the statement continued. “Makes you wonder… who else has Josh Shapiro accepted money from or done political favors for?” Emails released among several million pages of Epstein files show that Hoffman, a co-founder of LinkedIn and a major Democratic donor, visited Epstein’s infamous island in 2014 and also traveled to Epstein properties in New Mexico and New York City.Hoffman expressed regret for his friendship with Epstein in a 2023 Wall Street Journal article. “It gnaws at me that, by lending my association, I helped his reputation … I made the mistake,” he said. Epstein, who committed suicide in a New York City jail cell in 2019, was convicted of soliciting prostitution in 2008 related to his sex parties that frequently involved teen girls.
