A man was seriously injured in the crash, and a stolen vehicle investigation is underway, police said.
Two people are in custody after a driver fled from a Cicero police traffic stop before crashing and seriously injuring another driver on Chicago's West Side on Monday afternoon, officials said. A Cicero spokesperson said west suburban officers stopped a blue sedan for its tinted windows on the 4900-block of West 26th Street.
The driver initially pulled over before fleeing, the spokesperson said.Cicero police did not pursue the vehicle, which has temporary Indiana license plates, but they deployed a tracking device and alerted Chicago police, the spokesperson said. The Cicero spokesperson said CPD found the sedan and tried to stop it. But CPD said the sedan, which was traveling westbound on Madison Street, hit the passenger's side of a black pickup truck, which was heading northbound on Oakley Avenue. CPD said the sedan's driver and another person inside fled the scene on foot, but a Cicero spokesperson added that its police officers were able to take two into custody, one of whom is a known Cicero gang member. The pickup truck's driver, a 57-year-old man, suffered blunt-force trauma to his body and was transported to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. CPD said no citations were issued after the crash, but added that a stolen vehicle investigation is underway. This is a developing story. Check back with ABC7 for updates.
