The Aztecs begin a crucial five-game stretch against the top of the Mountain West with a home date against 16-4 Utah State at Viejas Arena
: SDSU leads 15-9 and is 8-1 in San Diego .: Utah State and Nevada have been the surprises of the Mountain West after being picked eighth and ninth, respectively, in the preseason media poll. The Aggies are 16-4, but much of that is the residue of a soft schedule.

Nearly two-thirds of their baskets are assisted – 63.2 percent, which ranks 11nationally. They start a big lineup, with a 6-8 wing, 6-9 forward and 7-1 center Trevin Dorius, and the roster includes players from England , Australia, Poland, Ukraine and Bahrain.: Health is suddenly a concern after they were down to four rotation players in practice Monday. Everyone is expected to be available, though maybe not at 100 percent: Nathan Mensah , Micah Parrish , Adam Seiko , and Matt Bradley and Aguek Arop after needing stitches following a head-to-head collision in practice. The Aztecs extended their road win streak to seven – second longest in the nation behind Charleston and Florida Atlantic – with a Rocky Mountain sweep at Colorado State and Air Force. Last year’s meetings with Utah State were both routs by the home team by almost identical scores – 75-57 in Logan and 75-56 at Viejas Arena a few weeks later. One key to the game will be defending the 3-point line, pitting the national leader in long-range accuracy against an SDSU team that allows 41.9 percent of opponents’ shot attempts to come behind the arc. In conference games, SDSU grabs the highest percentage of offensive rebounds in the Mountain West and allows the lowest. These teams meet again in just two weeks at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, which Kenpom rates the fifth best venue nationally for home-court advantage. The Aztecs were 4-3 through seven conference games last season.
