Galveston police responded to reports of a disturbance on Wednesday morning, leading to an officer-involved shooting near the Resource and Crisis Center shelter.
Chief Douglas Balli confirmed that the incident occurred around 9 a.m. in the intersection of 45th Street and Avenue L.FOX 26 Houston is now on the FOX LOCAL app available through Apple TV, Amazon FireTV, Roku and Google Android TV!Officers rushed to the intersection around 9:00 a.m. after someone called 911, saying a woman with a machete was attacking people and had already cut two women inside the Resource and Crisis Center of Galveston .
She was wielding a machete at the time, and she began attacking the first officer's police car as he pulled up on her and the victims were able to escape safely," explains Galveston Police Chief Doug Balli. "She turned her attention to the second officer who arrived on the scene and ran towards his car with the machete and began attacking his car. The officer fired his service weapon, striking the suspect at least once.
