Galveston police chief placed on administrative leave amid investigation on search warrant

the department’s SWAT team damaged her home while executing a warrant in a search of a teenager who was thought to be involved in a fatal shooting. The teen was not at the house.

In a GoFundMe, created by Terry Borrell, the mother of the boy police were looking for, noted that the homes’ windows, fence and garage were broken in the search, along with further interior damage. The fundraiser has gained more than $2,200 in donations as of Sunday afternoon.page says Rios and her children were traumatized by the raid, and Borrell said her son was innocent of police accusations.

Her son was charged with murder Jan. 23 in connection to a fatal shooting, but was released Wednesday after charges were dropped. Police Chief Doug Balli’s conduct is being examined, the city news release said. During the investigation, the city manager placed Balli on leave for 10 days.
