Gallants interim coach Raymond Mdaka handed a first start to January signing Judas Moseamedi in the attack, while Boitumelo Pheko, Matome Kgoetyane, Monde Mphambaniso were also re-called to the starting line-up.
The home reached the final last season and faced lower league opposition on two occasion, including fourth division side Santos FC in the firts round. Last season's runners-up managed to double their lead on the stroke of halftime, with Moseamedi marking his first start with his first goal of the club.
There was enough time for Gallants to add another goal, as Tebogo Thangwane opened his account for the season as the hosts took a commanding lead to the break.
