Marks Munyai, Bathusi Aubaas and a return from suspension of Junior Traore picked out Galaxy’s line-up, whilst Richards Bay missed goalkeeper Salim Magoola following his dismissal against Kaizer Chiefs.
However, Galaxy were ahead against the run of play midway through the first half after a curling shot outside the area by Sphiwe Mahlangu bounced off the ground and in the net. Galaxy staged more openings shortly before the break in which Kamogelo Sebelebele beat a few challenges to fire in from outside the six-yard area, but he didn’t test goalkeeper Neil Boshoff.
Richards Bay’s path to a comeback were made difficult nine minutes from the break as Traore brought a low cross from the right under control and found the far post through a composed finish.
