John Gadd, creator and star of the Netflix limited series 'The Stalk', reflects on the overwhelming success of the show and expresses his gratitude for the opportunity to share his story.
This is insane seeing all you people here, that’s mad. The Rock’s there. This is crazy. I can’t believe it. Honestly, I grew up with you man, this is nuts! Gadd, the show’s creator, star, writer and executive producer, said while addressing the crowd. “The way you guys have embraced this show is unbelievable. It means the absolute world to me, to us,” Gadd continued. “We’re so grateful to Netflix , by the way, for this story.
For giving me the chance to tell this messed up kind of story to the world.” Gadd plays himself in the limited series, which is based off of his real-life experiences of being a victim of stalking. “I think right now, when the world’s in the state that it’s in and people are really struggling, we need stories that speak to the complicated and difficult nature of our times,” Gadd said before adding, “Commissioner streamers: when you’re totting up the numbers and putting together the budgets for this year, remember to keep some back for the little person to tell their story. It was intense, the scenes, the intensity of it all, the re-enactments, the stressful days, the shooting days, the all-consuming process of it and the difficulty of revisiting that period of my life. Every production is a very difficult thing. It’s a hard thing to manage, but I felt very ready for it when it came.” He went on to explain how he’s looking forward to putting distance between himself and this chapter of his life with his next project. “I’m very grateful and aware that it’s quite rare to garner everyone’s attention at once as the show seemed to do,” he said. “It’s just been so intense. Something can be wonderful, but you also need a slight break from it. I think that’s maybe where I’m at
