After all the suffering Future Trunks endured to save his home and protect his friends, his entire timeline was erased, effectively wiping out everything he fought to protect and rendering his sacrifices pointless. Many Dragon Ball fans consider Future Trunks to be one of the franchise's best characters. His unique personality, unwavering determination, and iconic character design, which has become synonymous with Dragon Ball, helped him quickly gain recognition as a fan-favorite Z Fighter during the Cell Saga. Although his time in the spotlight was brief, his contributions to the plot were never forgotten. Seeing Future Trunks return during Dragon Ball Super only for his past efforts to be rendered worthless in a single, devastating moment was heart-wrenching for many viewers. After Zamasu's physical body was destroyed, his immortal soul survived, merging with the universe's energy and becoming the strongest fusion in the Dragon Ball franchise. In the blink of an eye, the deity's spirit infected Trunks' timeline, forcing Goku to act swiftly and summon a future version of Zeno. The Omni-King, without hesitation, used his powers to erase this parallel world, making it as if it had never existed. Vegeta's son and Mai were the only survivors from their world, forced to seek refuge in another dimension. While this was the only way to prevent Zamasu from infecting other timelines, Trunks still lost everything he had worked so hard to protect in an instant. His training with Gohan, his heroic battle against the androids, and the peace he had restored after defeating Cell were all erased from existence. This was a devastating blow to his character, as Trunks' mission had always been to protect his Earth and save the remaining humans. By eliminating his timeline, the franchise made every battle, tragedy, and happy memory the warrior held irrelevant. The fact that he survived the destruction of his reality only makes this worse, as he will forever carry the burden of knowing he failed to protect his loved ones. Zamasu's ultimate goal throughout his time as a Dragon Ball antagonist was to eliminate all mortal life in the universe. He viewed non-deities as an insult to his divinity. The Z Warriors fought valiantly to prevent his Zero Mortals Plan from coming to fruition, a monumental task considering his immense power. Nonetheless, despite the heroes' best efforts, Zeno's actions at the end of the saga inadvertently granted Zamasu victory. By erasing the timeline, the Omni-King also wiped out all mortals, leaving only Trunks and Mai alive. Even though his consciousness was erased, Zamasu ultimately emerged as the victor of this conflict. The sacrifices, pain, and anguish the Z Warriors endured to defend Trunks' timeline were ultimately in vain. Zeno's actions, although justified by the plot, led to an unsatisfying conclusion to what had been a gripping arc. Goku and his companions could have never prevented the destruction of Trunks' timeline, and the outcome would have been nearly identical. During episode #77, after the destruction of Trunks' timeline, Goku had a brief meeting with Zeno and the god's future self to discuss the Tournament of Power. During this scene, the original Omni-King admitted that he had already forgotten about the competition, prompting his future self to question whether such an event would be enjoyable. While this moment might seem innocuous, it raises doubts about the writers' decision to destroy Trunks' world. Seeing as the original Zeno had no clear intention of approving the tournament, it is likely that his future self was introduced solely to convince him to listen to Goku.
