Chris Minns has not hosed down fears Metro West could be axed altogether, while advocates say, “Just get on with it”.

Premier Chris Minns has warned the current design of the Metro West may not have enough stations at the same time as insisting the government needed reassurance the $25 billion train line would deliver an affordable transport solution for Sydney.

“When we were elected in March, it was revealed to us that the actual cost of that project is now at $25 billion and it has been reported to us by Infrastructure NSW that the chances of it coming in at that amount about of is very slim, almost not possible,” Minns said. The line is planned to run between Hunter Street in the Sydney CBD, through through Pyrmont, Five Dock and Parramatta before reaching Westmead.

“So we need to make sure the alignment is right, we need to make sure there are enough stations to warrant that spending, because you don’t want a situation that in 10 or 20 years time people say ‘That is a good piece of infrastructure’ but why are there only four or five stations between Hunter Street and Westmead when it such a densely populated part of Sydney.”
