Chatting in the conference hotel bar, one No 10 aide dismissed the idea that Mr Sunak might feel threatened by a string of front pages promoting the views of his Cabinet colleagues – insisting that every single one had in fact been signed off by Downing Street.Mr Sunak’s own true views remain largely an enigma to the public, suggesting that the tone of the election manifesto remains up for grabs.
