The Super Eagles will miss their first FIFA World Cup since the 2010 edition after drawing with Ghana 1-1 at the Abuja National Stadium this week.
Thomas Partey opened the scoring for the Black Stars to give them the lead 10 minutes into the match, before Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong slotted a goal from the penalty spot to level the game 12 minutes later. The three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions, however, failed to use this as a catalyst for a much-needed second goal, and after being held to a 0-0 draw in Kumasi last Friday, Ghana qualified for the global showpiece via the away goals rule.
As a result, some of the 60 000 supporters present made their displeasure at the country's performance known by forcefully entering the pitch.
