Lancaster County’s Bhutanese community is mourning the loss of 3-year-old Pujan Chouhan, who drowned this month in an East Hempfield Township pool, according to the county coroner.
“We’re stunned and grieved to announce the untimely death of a little Pujan Chouhan,” the Bhutanese Community Development Lancaster group posted on its Facebook page last week. “He’s ... an energetic and promising individual who had abundant life in him and departed so early to shock the entire community.”
Pujan’s parents, Tulashi Chouhan and Purnima Chetry, are refugees from Bhutan who have lived in Lancaster County since August 2017, according to family friend Kamal Kafley.on the 1700 block of Wheatland Avenue on May 5 and pronounced him dead that afternoon. East Hempfield police said the toddler wandered from his parents into the neighbor’s pool.
