Natalie Ricketts was armed with a steak knife after her daughter said her dad had assaulted her
A furious mum brandished a steak knife outside her ex-boyfriend's home, challenging his new partner to come out and "fight with her woman-to-woman".
Ricketts admitted to possession of a knife and affray, and appeared at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, August 21, for sentencing. Balnaves, who was in court, pleaded guilty to section 20 wounding, and received a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. Ricketts was visibly distressed, covering her face and crying as the court viewed the video in which Balnaves' girlfriend is heard urgently informing police: "She's got a knife. My man's on the way back, he's her ex-partner. You need to send someone because she's going to stab him.... You need to send someone because my partner's on his way back from school with my baby," reports the Liverpool Echo.
The confrontation ceased when Mr Balnaves came back from taking a child to school, having been alerted by his 14-year-old stepson. He grabbed a large branch to defend himself, striking Ricketts and causing her to fall and injure her head. While she was down, he kicked her. Police arrested Balnaves at the scene, and Ricketts was hospitalised before being taken into custody herself.
