The firm intends to appoint administrators
High Street shop Wilko remains on the brink of administration, with 12,000 jobs at risk and 400 shops in danger of closure. Bosses filed a notice of intent to appoint administrators last week.
The company hired advisors earlier in the year in an effort to find a buyer to secure fresh funding and keep them trading. So far that hasn't happened though, meaning several stores could shut down if a solution cannot be found. Following the news breaking, Wilko thanked shoppers for their support in an emotional social media post. On Facebook they wrote: "We're humbled by the amount of love you've sent our way after the news this week. Right now we're still here and we're doing everything in our power to stay that way."Please pop down to your local store today... we'd LOVE to see you.
Another wrote: "I love Wilko, keeping everything crossed for the stores and staff." Last year 13 shops closed with branches in Bournemouth, Stockton, The Fort Birmingham, Shipley, Scunthorpe, Narborough Road in Leicester, Grantham, Redditch, Skegness, Llanelli, Merthyr Tydfil, Cleethorpes and Woolwich saying a final goodbye to customers.
“We continue to believe that our robust turnaround plan, with significant re-stabilisation cost savings in progress, will deliver a profitable Wilko and maximise the significant opportunities that we know exist.”
