There was very little wrong with the old Fujifilm X100V, other than it was so popular it was near-impossible to buy. The new X100VI has even fewer flaws, but still has that one.
cameras got good enough to serve 90 per cent of the needs of 90 per cent of the people, it’s been difficult to muster up the enthusiasm required to put good old-fashionedBut like every TikToker on the planet , we are enthusiastic about the Fujifilm X100, acamera that delights in its old-fashioned simplicity and has delighted us ever since we reviewed the first model back in 2011.
The sixth model maintains the original, brilliant vision of the first model: a fixed-lens digital camera that looks and operates like an old-fashioned rangefinder camera, all the way down to having an actual optical rangefinder you peer through to take photos, but is thoroughly digital and can be operated using more modern controls if you prefer. As it’s received more and more features over the years, it has perhaps lost some of its initial simplicity, though.
The biggest new feature in the sixth model is in-body image stabilisation , which a lot of X100 fans have been waiting for, but which doesn’t excite us so much. One of our favourite new features is the addition of eye tracking to the X100VI’s autofocus system, which given we like to shoot with shallow focus, is an absolute godsend. We haven’t used the X100VI enough to quantify our focus failure rate, but it’s bound to be lower now the camera fairly reliably homes in on subjects’ eyes to make sure they’re always in focus.
The X100VI is Fujifilm’s first camera to support Adobe’s Frame.io photo-collaboration service, which allows the camera to automatically upload photos and videos to the cloud, whenever it’s in range of WiFi.
