There is mounting pressure on Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti to discipline Michigan and coach Jim Harbaugh for a sign-stealing scheme. Pettiti heard from frustrated and angry Big Ten coaches during a video call Wednesday, according to two people with knowledge of the meeting.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, front left, watches against Rutgers as analytics assistant Connor Stalions, right, looks on during an NCAA college football game in Ann Arbor, Mich., Sept. 23, 2023. Stalions was suspended by the university last week and is at the center of a sign-stealing scheme that is being investigated by the NCAA.

The people spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday on condition of anonymity because the conference was not making its internal discussions public.Big 12 newcomer Houston at Baylor for 1st meeting since the final SWC season in 1995“They said it was an NCAA issue and not a CFP issue. It’s a football issue,” said the person who was on the call.

A previously unscheduled meeting with Pettiti and the Big Ten’s athletic directors was set for later Thursday, one of the people said. Both people said Petitti suggested a possible follow-up call with the coaches on Sunday. The NCAA investigative process is slow moving and is likely to extend well past the Jan. 8 CFP national championship game.
