The triple tragedy struck the immigrant Nicaraguan family in mid-March when Mario Jr. developed a fever and dry cough and was told by a doctor to self-isolate at home. Their tests originally came back negative, but a re-test proved they were positive for COVID-19 and had to be hospitalized. His mother, Esperanza Mayorga, also 72, died nine days later.Tragically, Mario Jr. died on Sunday, leaving sister Violeta devastated.
Marcela said Mario Jr. and his parents’ condition declined so quickly, she is unsure if the 42-year-old was ever told that his parents had died.
