‘You’re used to seeing death but you can never desensitise from it.'
Dr Larisa explained that she has been volunteering on the frontline for the past couple of months to help during the pandemic.
Speaking to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford via video-link after her last shift, Dr Larisa began: ‘It feels like the end of an era. ‘All the beds are still full and doing my final shift, saying goodbye to the patients was really emotional for me.’She continued: ‘I realised how much of this journey I have spent with them and how much it means to me. It’s been an incredible experience, I can’t compare it to anything else I have ever done before.’The hosts went on to ask Dr Larisa how hard it has been watching patients die of Covid-19.
Ruth asked: ‘You have watched a lot of people die, held their hands sadly when they die because their families couldn’t.
‘It’s hard to take as a doctor or a nurse, you’re used to seeing death but you can never desensitise from it,’ she explained.‘I have had a lot of support from my colleagues, and I was there for these people when they needed me most.’
