Christian Jones never outgrew his love for soccer. But with time, football finally managed to captured of Texas' sixth-year offensive lineman.

That was a lifetime ago for Jones, finally forced onto the gridiron as a sophomore after some gentle nudging from, well, just about every single football coach on Cy Woods’ staff. Now a colossus at 6-foot-6 and 322 pounds, the soft-spoken Jones has gradually grown into a role that demands a mean streak.
After forming the offensive line bookends with budding freshman All-American left tackle Kelvin Banks a year ago, Jones will again start on the right side in 2023 alongside returning starting center Jake Majors, left guard Hayden Conner and right guard Cole Hutson. That sort of full continuity is rare these days, so Sarkisian and offensive line coach Kyle Flood were more than pleased to hear of Jones’ return even with some uber-talented underclassmen waiting in the wings.
And Jones had come a long way in a couple years, boosting his pass blocking efficiency from 96.0 in 2020 to 98.3 last season. Might not sound significant, but he’d gone from allowing 27 quarterback pressures in 400 passing snaps as a redshirt sophomore to just 12 in 443 as a fifth-year senior.
