Two Kansas City Chiefs players, Charles Omenihu and Bryan Cook, overcame serious injuries to make their mark on Super Bowl 2025. Omenihu returns from an ACL tear while Cook bounces back after tightrope ankle surgery. Both are eager to contribute to the Chiefs' historic pursuit of a three-peat.

For two Kansas City Chiefs teammates, Super Bowl 2025 marks the culmination of a one-year journey back from injury. Defensive tackle Charles Omenihu (torn ACL) and safety Bryan Cook (severe ankle sprain) were forced to watch from the sidelines last year in Las Vegas as they recovered. Now, they're eager to finally take the field on the biggest stage. 'It's going to be extremely special to take it all in once I'm actually there,' Omenihu said. 'I've been staying even-keeled.

That's the best thing for me, but definitely the excitement is going to start picking up. I'm glad I have the opportunity to play on the biggest stage.'Omenihu, despite playing in four consecutive conference championship games, has never experienced the Super Bowl until now. He lost two with the 49ers before joining the Chiefs. His ACL tear against the Ravens sidelined him for last year's Super Bowl, marking the first of 11 missed games, including the first 10 of this season. Since 1999, only Ray Lewis and Robert Mathis have more career forced fumbles in the playoffs than Omenihu's four. Cook, meanwhile, returns after overcoming tightrope surgery on his ankle. He missed the 2024 season but has earned a starting role and tallied two interceptions during the regular season. This year's appearance holds extra significance for Cook as he faced a more challenging road to recovery and proved his resilience. 'Can't hold me down,' Cook said. 'A lot of people don't know this, but I had that same injury in college, so I was more devastated about the process that I had to go through to get back to where I wanted to be. The first time I had it done, I wasn't that confident because I didn't feel comfortable in the brace and in my pedal — opening up. This time, eventually, I was like, 'This is what it is. I can't change it.' Watching my guys still accomplish their goal flooded all that away from me.'Both Omenihu and Cook are now focused on helping the Chiefs secure another Super Bowl victory, potentially cementing their place in history as part of the NFL's first three-peat. 'Not only to be back here,' Cook said, 'but we have an opportunity to stamp our names in history. And I’m here to do that.'
