In June 2023, as Manning was unloading his paintball gear with his mother, Muffin ran into the road. Without hesitation, Manning darted into the street to rescue his puppy, but was struck by a black RAM truck.

The impact was devastating, leaving Manning with numerous injuries, including a collapsed lung, shattered jaw, trapped eye, fractured pelvis and collarbone, and a feeding tube. Doctors feared he might have suffered a spinal cord injury, and there were concerns that he might never walk or talk again.Manning's mother, Mindy McConnell, was beside herself with worry. She watched helplessly as her son was rushed to the hospital, convinced that he wouldn't survive. However, against all odds, Manning began to show signs of improvement. He slowly regained consciousness and, after several weeks of intensive care, he was finally able to speak his first word since the accident - 'Love'.Fueled by an indomitable spirit and a passion for paintball, Manning worked tirelessly with his medical team to recover. He was determined to return to the field as soon as possible. While he wasn't cleared to play by doctors, his mother recalls him insisting on competing, even against medical advice. Manning's coach, Matt Hodges, praised his resilience and determination, stating that he knew deep down Manning would come back. Manning's story inspired an outpouring of support from his community. Churches placed him on prayer lists, sending blankets and cards, and visitors flocked to his hospital bedside. Manning's determination and the unwavering support he received from his loved ones ultimately led to his remarkable recovery. He returned to paintball, eventually leading his team to victory at the world cup championship. Manning continues to make progress in his recovery. While he still experiences some challenges, including lingering hip pain and memory issues, he remains committed to his physical therapy and is determined to regain his full strength. His six-month-old Great Dane, Muffin, is now training to be a service dog, learning to help Manning during his anxiety attacks. Manning's story is a testament to the power of the human spirit and the importance of never giving up on your dreams
