Elements of the famous 82nd Airborne Division are packing up to march off for Middle East duty, fulfilling their motto 'All the Way.'
Even as some U.S. officials say the war is winding down, President Donald Trump is ordering deployment from an Army division normally first into ground battle, which is now led by a commanding officer from Naperville.
Elements of the famous 82nd Airborne Division are packing up to march off for Middle East duty, fulfilling their motto “All the Way” and led by a Naperville-native general, as Chuck Goudie reports. Elements of the famous 82nd Airborne Division are packing up to march off for Middle East duty, fulfilling their motto"All the Way." The contingent includes a brigade combat team, usually leading the way for a full 3,000-paratrooper rapid response team. It is a ground force being led by 51-year old Naperville native Major General Brandon Tegtmeier, a WestPoint graduate and Army special forces commander who was chief of staff at CENTCOM.They are paratroopers who literally drop in to work. Although the Pentagon hasn't offered details of where they will deploy or what they will do, many military observers believe their landing zone will be Iran's Strait of Hormuz to help clear the way for cargo ships. That deployment could also land them possibly on Kharg Island, an industrial site that accounts for 90% of Iran's oil output. Although the mission may not be public, the man in command of executing the mission is known, as Tegtmeier gets set to take a front row seat to the action. "We've been on the precipice of regional war multiple times the past year," he said, shortly after Iran-backed Hamas terrorists invaded Israel in Oct. 2023.The deadly attack indeed preceded a wider war between the U.S. Israel, and Iran, a conflict the Naperville native, husband and father is about to find himself squarely in the middle of and perhaps within enemy lines."We are meeting our goals of Operation Epic Fury expeditiously,” said presidential press secretary Karoline Leavitt. “The President likes to maintain options at his disposal. It's the Pentagon's job to provide those options to the Commander-in-Chief. For any specifics on troop deployments, though, I would point you to the Pentagon." And now the Pentagon is officially confirming to NBC News that"elements of the 82nd Airborne Division HQs, some division enablers and the 1st Brigade Combat Team will be deploying" to the Iran War theatre. With the arrival soon of Tegtmeier and the initial wave from the 82nd Airborne, there will be about 50,000 American troops assigned to the Operation Epic Fury. Among that larger group of sailors, airmen, and support personnel are roughly seven-thousand Marine's and army soldiers who could be considered actual boots on the ground. The importance of the 82nd is paramount, because when its paratroopers jump and land, it would mark the first large scale advancement of U.S. forces onto Iranian territory.
