Creative Works is a company that builds escape rooms, mini golf courses, laser tag arenas and other large sets for businesses around the world.is easy to spot amid the curving blocks of faceless warehouses in Park Fletcher's industrial complex on the south west side.treasure chest overflowing with gold at the front door — an eight-legged sample of the quirkiness that waits inside.
In 26 years of work in Indiana, Creative Works has put an estimated number on this sentiment: 40 million memories.Creative Works was founded in Mooresville in 1997 by owner Jeff Schilling, who passed away in 2020. Lanuti bought into the company in 2016 and now runs its operations alongside Schilling's widow, Kimberly, and Lanuti's wife, Amy.
On this particular April afternoon, the design team is working on a skeleton that will act as an interactive boss in a laser tag arena in Florida. The head, black with bright red eyes, will pop up and fire lasers at unsuspecting children until defeated. "There's not a lot of people who are going to have 'I'm a prop builder' on their resumes in central Indiana, so we have to look for cousin industries with similar skills," Lanuti said."So you can think of a lot of our props like custom cabinets, so a custom homebuilder may build here."Multiple sections of the shop are working on several"Star Trek"-themed escape rooms that will then be shipped to Florida and Texas.
