A study of 2,000 adults has discovered the things that make us happiest at this time of year - with more than half of Brits saying they tend to spend more during the summer months

Brits have shared their top summer 'wins', which include seeing your suitcase first on the airport carousel, receiving a complimentary hotel upgrade, and securing a table in a bustling pub garden.

The survey was conducted by Virgin Money as part of its 'adding extra to ordinary' campaign. Andrew Carter, from the brand, which has also released tips on how to 'win' at summer, said: "Summer wins can well and truly take it from being a good time of year to a great one, putting you in a brilliant mood while the sun is hopefully shining."

The study also found that 62 per cent of people wish they had more 'summer wins', those little unexpected bonuses, or savings than they currently experience. A third value the unexpected wins the most, while 30 per cent favour those that help them save money.
