Published: Sep. 24, 2024, 7:09 p.m.The surprsing Guardians have clinched the division, while the Royals, Twins and Tigers are still wrestling for the last two wild card spots behind the Orioles with the regular season ending Sunday.
Talk about covering all the bases. The AL Central has a three-team, last-week-of-’the-season sprint, while the last place team is on the verge of making history. The Royals, 7-16 since they tied the Guardians for first place on Aug. 27, are 82-74 compared to Detroit at 83-74. They are one game ahead of the Twins , who have gone 9-15 since Aug. 27 entering Tuesday night games.
Houston, the AL West Division champion, would play the the Royals, the wild card team with the worst record. The Tigers and Orioles would play in the other best-of-three wild card series. The Guards, besides their 5-8 record against the Royals, went 8-5 against the White Sox, 7-6 against Detroit and 10-3 against the Twins in the AL Central.Left fielder Steven Kwan was eligible to come off the injured list on Tuesday, but that didn’t happen. Instead he went through another workout day.
“It went very well,” said Vogt. “He was able to throw about 30 pitches with no issues. We’ll determine the next steps on Wednesday.”“We haven’t talked about a rehab start,” said Vogt. “We’ll have to wait to see how he feels.”Catcher Cooper Ingle has been named Class A Midwest League MVP.
