Former Ice Dog Jack Thomas talks about being back in Fairbanks, after donning new team colors.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska -Most junior hockey teams in the North American Hockey League have two goals: the first is to win the Robertson Cup, and the second is to send their players to college to play at the next level. For the Ice Dogs , they were able to see one of those goals achieved when former defenseman Jack Thomas returned to town wearing a Grand Canyon University jersey.
Of the 142 games at the junior level, 87 of them were in a Fairbanks jersey as a steadfast defenseman for the dogs for two years, where he tailed two goals and 18 assists while adding 92 penalty minutes. “It’s unbelievable. I loved every second playing in the dipper, the fans, the atmosphere, everything. It’s just so special, and not a lot of guys get to experience it, and I’m very grateful that my team got to experience it. We put on a great performance here tonight,” said Thomas.
“Fairbanks is a town that just thrives on unity, and I wouldn’t be the same person that I am without the people, especially my billets, who have made that happen. Everything that they’ve done in sacrifice for me to help me become a man and become a better player is everything I wish everybody would be able to experience playing in Fairbanks at one point,” said Thomas.
