Many designers and brands put their staff—from seamstresses to publicists, to shipping department employees—front and center in campaigns and collection videos and some also tapped Copenhagen musicians and artists to lend soundtracks and performances to their shows and presentations. Stine Goya created a special House of Goya spring 2021 collection film starring members of her own team, as well as Copenhagen-based dancers, actors, musicians, and artists.
By and large these collections were designed in quarantine, an experience that designers reacted to in diametrically opposed ways. Rains’s sharp, minimalist ready-to-wear was styled by Copenhagen fashion star Pernille Teisbaek with results that were effortlessly cool, while Mark Kenley Domino Tan’s very Scandinavian, soft and monochromic clothes spoke to the serenity and calm we’re all longing for.
Bringing it back to the clothes, the spirit of the Copenhagen collections was one of hope, one that fostered human connectivity. The bold palettes, whimsical and oft-quirky prints, and the oversized, comfortable shapes and silhouettes, even in the most Scandi-sleek ways, were reminders that fashion can be comforting, light and fun and we can appreciate it, wholeheartedly, as such.
