Sky Railway blends transportation and spirits into a seamless and everchanging trip down the tracks.
Once you step onto the platform, you see it: a huge dragon painted on the side of a train car. The beast is a call to adventure and a nod to one of Sky Railway ’s investors, author George R. R. Martin . Martin is the author of the series of fantasy novels “A Song of Ice and Fire,” which the show “House of the Dragon' is based on. You won’t have to visit the seven kingdoms to get a taste of Martin’s imagination, as Very Local ’s “Free Spirit” host Kate Gerwin found out.
“Our original investors, Martin, Catherine Oppenheimer, and Bill Banowsky, all sat down for margaritas. They had no intention of starting a railroad. After about four or five of them, they all said, ‘Hey, that railroad that’s about to get scrapped — let’s buy it and turn it into an entertainment company.'”Johnson also explained how the railway fits into the Santa Fe community.“We’ve employed over a thousand music performances this year, so it’s a lot of local music,” he said.
