'I can't put anything past the kid. She goes out and does something amazing and then surpasses it a week later,' he said, praising her maturity, work ethic, and understanding of what it takes to be successful. Macchia, a driven student, balances her rigorous training schedule with academics, serving as captain of her school's science bowl team and taking every math and science class offered. She also enjoys painting and plans to pursue an electrical engineering degree in college.Her journey began at Smith Point beach, where she competed in a 5K run in sixth grade. Her parents noticed her natural talent and unwavering passion as she outpaced the competition and crossed the finish line with a radiant smile. Macchia's success is attributed to her love for running and her unwavering commitment to pushing her boundaries. 'I think the reason that I've been able to be so successful with track and cross country is because it's something that I really do enjoy and love doing,' she explained. As she prepares for upcoming competitions, including the Millrose Games and the Nike Indoor Nationals, Macchia remains focused on her long-term goals, including representing Team USA at the Olympics. 'I think making the Olympic Trials is a realistic possibility,' she said confidently. 'Obviously, making the team is a whole new level from that. I can't really say much, but yeah, I think I'm going to make the Olympics.
