Winter will grow more real as the week progresses.
was fast becoming a distant memory Tuesday as the region braced for storms poised to dump a foot or more of snow in some areas.
AccuWeather says a couple weak systems will spread modest amounts of snow across upstate New York and northern New England into Wednesday. A second storm is forecast to drive snow or a wintry mix from parts of Pennsylvania into southern New England late Wednesday night into Thursday. Those storms will set the table for the weekend, when a larger storm out of the Midwest slams into a new batch of cold air in the East.
Some Midwestern cities could see Friday travel plans blown up by ice and snow. Flight delays and interstates across the east from Virginia north could see chaos by Saturday. New York City is on the edge, with an all-out snowstorm possible or snow-to-ice-to-rain event. Parts of the Appalachians and New England could see a foot or more of snow, AccuWeather says.
