Family and fans unite to honor Austin Metcalf at Frisco's first home game since his stabbing. His brother, Hunter, carrying his sibling’s jersey.
Frisco Memorial High School hosted its first home game since the stabbing death of one of its standout players. Rising senior Austin Metcalf died in April after being stabbed by another student during a school track meet.
On Friday evening, Metcalf’s family told NBC 5 they attended the game to remember who he was as a student and athlete, while cheering on his twin brother, Hunter Metcalf.Jeff Metcalf made sure to arrive early at the Ford Center in Frisco to support his son on the field and honor the son no longer with him. He stopped briefly to address reporters outside the stadium.LEARN MORE Family members wearing “All In” t-shirts and pins traveled from near and far in support of Hunter and his father. “We want to be here. And he wants us here,” said Mary Lincoln, a great aunt of the twins. “This is a tough thing for him to do, to have to get out there without his brother.” Hunter Metcalf, during his first home game without his twin brother, draped Austin’s jersey over his shoulder during the coin toss.Austin Metcalf died in April after being stabbed by fellow student Karmelo Anthony while in the stands at a track meet. Anthony, also a student athlete, was later Just minutes before the football game on Friday, however, fans of the Frisco Memorial Warriors sent a clear message that the night was about family, football and fortitude. “I think it helps in a very difficult time for his family to get through and to grieve and to know that people care about them,” said supporter Erik Petersen. The two L’s in the new motto “all in” were replaced by the number 11; a nod to Austin and what he meant to his team.
