The showing of the 1977 film will be accompanied by a dance lesson and bouffant contest
River Oaks is going to be full of bouffants and beehives Friday night when the Friends of the River Oaks Theatre presents a sing-and-dance-along screening of"Hairspray," the 2007 musical film starring John Travolta, Queen Latifah and Michelle Pfeiffer. It will be held outdoors at the River Oaks Shopping Center parking deck rooftop at 2030 West Gray, across from the River Oaks Theatre.
The screening starts at 7:45 p.m. but local drag queen Persephone, winner of Most Divine Drag Queen 2021 award from OutSmart, hosts the pre-show activities at 7 p.m. There will be a group dance lesson and best bouffant hair-do contest. This musical is a adaptation of John Waters' 1988 film about plump Tracy Turnblad auditioning to be a dancer on a popular Baltimore TV dance show. The update also features James Marsden, Amanda Bynes, Christopher Walken and Brittany Snow.
