Friends and family of Phylicia Council gathered for a celebration of life at the North Greece Road Church of Christ on Saturday morning.
Loved ones of Phylicia Council celebrated her life at North Greece Road Church of Christ on early Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024. Greece , N.Y. — 34-year-old Council and 25-year-old Tyasia Manning were both killed in the mass shooting at Maplewood Park on Sunday, July 28. Five others were injured.
One of Phylicia's colleagues from Hillside Children's Center remembered her love for her job and the children she worked with. "Today is one of the hardest days of my life," said Reniya Cook, Council's cousin. "She was so funny – we laughed and all we did was laugh and joke. She was an amazing decorator. Her business was just coming off of the ground. She loved to do it...I don’t know how I’m going to plan my wedding without her. There will be a place set for her in her honor."
Council's father, Alex, took to the lectern with a small container; a gift his daughter had given him for Father's Day, which contained about 60 handwritten messages. He read one aloud:"I couldn't believe it. It hurts. It hurts that she got shot," said Council's father. "This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life...
