In a stunning move, Grand Canyon coach Bryce Drew burned 18-year-old freshman Isaiah Carr's redshirt status to make his college basketball debut Thursday night in his team's Western Athletic Conference opener.
With big man Yvan Ouedraogo out with an injury, Drew knew he needed more length. The 7-foot, 245-pound Carr didn't have that deer-in-the-headlights look, as he scored three points, had two rebounds and blocked a shot, and made it harder for CBU's bigs to get off easy shots in the paint. Blacksher, who has been hobbled the past three weeks with a foot injury, still isn't 100%. But that swagger and ability to dribble free from the defender to pull up for shots returned. He had 13 points on 5 of 11 shooting in 27 minutes. The foot didn't put him on the bench, but rather foul trouble. He finished the game strong.
