KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR chief Datuk Christina Liew is facing a fresh round of revolt as some 10 leaders of the party's grassroots announced their resignation.
The party's former special tasks director Datuk Nani Sakam with 10 other grassroots leaders announced their decision to leave the party on Friday , citing unhappiness over the leadership of Liew, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister.
"We are expecting some 8,000 party supporters to follow us," Nani said, adding that due to social distancing and large gatherings not being allowed, many of their supporters did not turn up. "We have supported her and built her foundation but she has been not been looking after us after she got into a position of power," Nani said at a press conference at a coffeehouse in Putatan here Friday.
Nani said that they will remain"partyless" for now but each of them may move in different political directions after leaving PKR.The press conference was interrupted briefly when some PKR members turned up at the press conference to accuse the group of tarnishing the Putatan PKR division led by Putatan MP Awang Husaini Sahari.Nani said that he had spoken to Awang Husaini over their move earlier.
Some of those in the group leaving the party also included those currently suspended over statements against the state leadership.Article type: metered
