A French interior designer fell victim to a sophisticated online scam where she was led to believe she was in a relationship with Brad Pitt. The scammers used AI-generated videos, fake social media accounts, and fabricated stories to convince Anne to send them almost her entire divorce settlement.
A French woman reportedly lost over $800,000 to scammers who tricked her into believing she was in a relationship with Brad Pitt . Anne, a 53-year-old interior designer, shared her story on French TV outlet TF1, detailing how she was contacted by someone claiming to be Brad's mother, Jane Pitt. The interview, which was subsequently removed due to online harassment Anne faced, was reported by French news outlets AFP and BFM TV.
Anne had been on a ski trip and posted photos on Instagram, which caught the attention of the scammer posing as Jane Pitt. The scammer explained that Jane had been speaking highly of Anne and a connection quickly formed. Anne, who was allegedly married at the time, received poems and numerous declarations of affection. She told TF1 that she was drawn to the man she believed she was communicating with, finding his words and manner charming. The scammers used AI-generated videos, fake social media accounts, and WhatsApp messages to maintain the illusion. They even fabricated a story about Brad having kidney cancer and needing financial assistance due to his accounts being frozen amidst a divorce with Angelina Jolie. Anne, believing she was in a genuine relationship with Brad Pitt, sent almost €10,000 initially to cover alleged customs tariffs for gifts. She then transferred nearly €775,000, almost her entire divorce settlement, after being told about Brad's supposed medical emergency. TF1 removed the original article to protect Anne from online harassment, and she has reportedly filed a lawsuit. A police investigation has also been launched.
