French company Framatome has reportedly warned of an “imminent radiological threat,” at a Chinese nuclear plant it part-owns, prompting an investigation by the U.S. government.

that the U.S. government has spent the past week examining a report of a leak at the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant in China’s Guangdong province.

The investigation began after Framatome warned of an “imminent radiological threat,” the report says without elaborating what that means. Framatome’s warning also reportedly accused Chinese safety authorities of averting a shutdown of the plant by raising the acceptable radiation limits outside the plant above French safety standards.to AFP that it was “supporting resolution of a performance issue” at the plant but claimed that based on available data the plant was “operating within the safety parameters.
